Title:

Creating Higher Quality PDF Documents from CADD

Type:  General Help

Category:  Using the System

It is recommended that drawings be plotted to an 11 x 17 page size when creating PDF documents as file attachments for the System.

Attached below are examples of PDF documents for the same drawing plotted to 8-1/2x11, 11x17 and 22x36 page sizes. A brief explanation of each one is provided below.

8-1/2x11

This file is the smallest in size (184Kb) of the three. However, it is very difficult to view some of the details as you zoom in on a specific region of the drawing. Also, if you print this drawing to a larger paper size it will not enlarge to fill the entire page.

22x36

This file is the largest in size (233Kb) of the three. It is very easy to zoom in on specific regions and see the details of the drawing. However, at this page size some of the line weight differentiation present in the original CADD drawing is lost. This document will print nicely but the lack of line weight differentiation is carried into the printed document as well.

11x17

This file has a size of 206 Kb which is slightly larger than the 8-1/2x11 document and slightly smaller than the 22x36 document. Similar to the 22x36 document described above, it is easy to zoom in on specific regions and see the details of the drawing. However, unlike the 22x36 document, the line weight differentiation present in the original CADD drawing is maintained. Also, this document prints very nicely to any of these three paper sizes (8-1/2x11, 11x17 and 22x36).
